Graphic Design Sue Taylor won a week’s work experience at Benson Group and £250 in the Student Starpack packaging awards. Taylor also won a silver award and Gary Reedman won a bronze award in the consumer packaging competition which has been running annually since 1964. Taylor and Reedman entered the same brief, which asked students to design chilled pizza packaging for supermarkets. Read more about their work. (April 29, 2013)

English Amanda Hodgkinson, who got her degree in cultural studies from UCS departments before the university was officially formed, wrote her debut novel 22 Britannia Road (Penguin) about a Polish refugee family in Ipswich and has now seen it shortlisted for the New Angle Prize. English 2012 BA (Hons) graduate Charly Peacock was shortlisted for the Bridport Poetry Prize for her poem “Nesting” – but didn’t find out until she did a Web search on her name a year later. It is possible to be too modest! Peacock, a former photographer and PR manager, will start an MA in Creative Nonfiction at the University of East Anglia in autumn 2013.
